The Faculty of Natural Resources was founded jointly with the Faculty of Agriculture in 1991. In 2007, the former faculty was segregated from the latter, and commenced its independent academic activities. The faculty is focused on education and research in various fields of conservation, protection, rehabilitation, management, and enhancement of renewable natural resources, including forests, rangelands, water resources and watersheds, soil, climate, environment and biodiversity, and fisheries and relevant resources. A leading comprehensive educational institute of natural resources in the Northwest, West, and Southwest of Iran, the faculty relies on its young, motivated lecturers and invaluable assets, and applies innovative training methods and technologies to train a committed, skilled workforce in order to resolve the challenges and problems in the society at local, national, and global levels. The faculty involves six departments: Forestry, Rangeland and Watershed Management, Climatology, Fisheries, Environmental Sciences, and Geomorphology. Currently, there are 32 full-time faculty members and more than 20 part-time lecturers, along with 15 laboratory and administrative staff members. The Faculty of Natural Resources admits Iranian and foreign students in 7 BSc, 15 MSc, and 2 PhD programs. Moreover, in the development plan, the possibility of admitting Iranian and foreign PhD students in 3 of the fields is under consideration. The faculty building, with an area of ​​4825 square meters, including 5 classrooms, 26 laboratories, and a computer center, is located on the main campus of the University of Kurdistan. Currently, 543 undergraduate students, 295 graduate students, and 11 international students are studying in the faculty. Based on the available bilateral memoranda of understanding with a number of high-ranking foreign universities, it is now possible for the students to participate in short-term educational programs, such as student exchange, courses, and summer schools, held by those universities, in accordance with the relevant regulations. The Faculty of Natural Resources attempts to meet the diverse needs of the community in various fields and at various levels by nurturing applied research, developing new frontiers of knowledge, and offering consultancy to national and international students.
